EXCESSIVE PERSPIRATION

HYPERHIDROSIS INFORMATION REGARDING TREATMENT OF EXCESSIVE SWEATING OF THE ARMPIT AREA

WHAT DOES BOTULINIUM TOXINE DO?
BOTULINIUM TOXINE– Clostridium botulinum type A neurotoxin complex – is used in adults to manage excessive sweating of the armpits, which does not respond to topical treatment with antiperspirants. BOTULINIUM TOXINE works by blocking the nerve impulses to sweat glands , which stops them from producing sweat.

HOW IS HYPERHYDROSIS TREATED?
Your doctor will inject a certain amount of BOTULINIUM TOXINE into 10-15 sites of the skin area of the armpit affected by excessive sweating. You will generally see an improvement within the first week after injection. Your doctor will give the next injections when the effect starts to wear off. Injections should not be repeated more than every 16 weeks. The effect usually lasts, on an average, 7.5 months after the first injection with approximately 30% still seeing effect after one year.
